My goal was to finish the Valley Forge Revolutionary 5-mile Run under 40 minutes so I started at the back of the 7 minute pace group. It was a little slow getting started as I searched for a clear path and fought to establish my pace. Things opened up at the one mile mark and by the second mile the hills had started to separate the runners. I ran the race just as I had planned and finished under 40 minutes. I plan to run this race agin next year.

Valley Forge Revolutionary 5-Mile Run
On April 21, 2012 we had a cold front pass through Pennsylvania bringing heavy rain, high winds and cooler temps. I decided if it was raining in the morning I was staying in bed. I'm willing to run in the rain and I'll run when it's cold but I will not run in the cold rain. It was not raining in the morning but it wasn't very warm. I'm always early for races and my mistake for this event was going to the park early. I should have stayed in my car where it was warm and taken a later shuttle bus to the park. Instead I took an early shuttle bus I was at the park over an hour before the race started. I had to walk / run just to stay warm. Temperature at race time was 45 degrees and the rain started just as the race started. It wasn't a hard rain but it was hard enough to be annoying to those of us that wear glasses.
