New Year's Eve 5K

Today the Upper Mainline YMCA held the annual New Year's Eve 5K race.  I didn't know what to expect so as is the custom I showed up early, so early that I was the first person to show up.  I asked if I would get bib number 1 since I was the first person to show up but I was told "no."

The lobby of the YMCA is warm and well lit by the early morning sunshine but it's chilly outside.  I notice there isn't any chip in my race packet, this is only my second race but I assumed all races used chip timing.  When it's time to line up I started near the front so my race time will be more accurate.  There is some snow and ice along the edges of the roads and the YMCA has people at the intersections pointing out the ice so we don't fall.  After the race I see a girl holding snow on her knee. She fell on the ice at one of the intersections and ripped opened up her knee.  I run a good race (didn't fall) and finish faster then I did in my previous race.
